MALTON’S racing community will be on hand for their annual open day on Sunday, August 31 giving a behind the scenes glimpse of some of the country’s top racing yards.
The Betfair Malton Stables Open Day has become a popular annual tradition in North Yorkshire’s social calendar with activities, demonstrations and of course, racehorses, to keep visitors entertained.
The open day is being staged as a fund-raiser for four charities – Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Malton Hospital, Jack Berry House and Racing Welfare – and involves more then 20 of Malton’s trainers.
Racing heroes Mr McGoldrick, Golden Hello and Mr Freddy will perform retrained racehorses displays hosted by New Beginnings Racehorse Rehoming Centre at Tim Fitzgerald’s Norton Grange Stables throughout the morning where there will also be a chance to have a go on an equisisor.
At Richard Fahey’s yard there will be farriery and veterinary demonstrations in the morning and jockeys Tony Hamilton, Paddy Mathers, Dave Nolan, George Chaloner, Jack Garrity and Sammy Bell will be there to chat and sign autographs. There will also be free tea and coffee with all donations going to charity.
The afternoon’s entertainment focuses on the Milton Rooms and Market Place. Horseracing memorabilia from the National Horseracing Museum and Great British Racing’s Kids Love The Races Roadshow will be in the Milton rooms where the will also be exhibitions by the Injured Jockeys’ Fund and Racing Welfare.
Karon Brown, a member of the Malton Racing Association, said: “The open day is a really fantastic opportunity to come along to Malton, visit the various different yards and meet the horses, jockeys and trainers and watch some brilliant demonstrations.”
