Next Steps Mental Health Resource Centre supports people with mental health problems in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, by providing a drop-in centre, activities and outreach groups in Norton on Derwent, Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering.
Next Steps are a user-led organisation and work closely with GPs and the community mental health teams to ensure that people who are affected by mental health issues are supported. Their ultimate aim is to develop self-confidence for members, improve their work prospects and access to statutory services and help support positive family relationships.
The community cafe is in Church Street, Norton and has a warm friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome. There is a 20 cover cafe with counter servery. Norton Next Steps also have a meeting room and computer room on the first floor.
The cafe is run as a social enterprise and is partly staffed by users on permitted work scheme and volunteers.
They provide home cooked meals, cakes and puddings and a variety of drinks all at reasonable cost. They use locally sourced produce where possible and grow our own vegetables at our allotment.
In addition to the cafe there is regular activities including an after hours group which enjoys movie nights and trips out, amongst others. There is the green steps walking group undertaking walks to suit most abilities. There is a Memory Cafe, a meeting of people who have concerns about their memory. The Art Group is coming soon.
Next Steps has been established some 15 years and is a registered charity.
